Fusinus hayesi Snyder, 1996La Conchiglia 280: 24-28. A rather small new species from South Africa, Agulhas Bank (type locality). Shell fusiform, rather small for genus (to 50 mm), 9-10 slightly convex whorls. Siphonal canal straight to strongly recurved. Strong axial ribs on all whorls, 10-11 on upper whorls, 8-9 on last whorl. 4-5 raised spiral cords. Colouration pale brown to reddish brown with creamy white ribs. Collected at a depth of 110-150 m. The holotype (49.6 mm) has been deposited in the Natal Museum (NM no. V2038/T1357). It is compared with Fusinus bonaespei (Barnard, 1959) from the same area.
