Fusinus rutilus Nicolay & Berthelot, 1996La Conchiglia 278: 25-28. A rare and spectacular Fusinus is described from Gabon (West Africa). Shell large (100-191 mm), fusiform, with an elongate and slender spire and a long siphonal canal. Prominent, red-brown coloured axial ribs are crossed by numerous rather weak spiral cords. Aperture relatively small. Background colouration white, axial ribs red-brown, spire and siphonal canal often red-brown tinged. The holotype is deposited at the Museo Civico di Zoologia of Rome (Reg. No. 2000/P).
NOTE: The authors of F. rutilus compared their species with "F. caparti (Adam & Knudsen, 1955)". Unfortunately they misidentified F. meyeri (Dunker, 1869) as F. caparti. (more information)
