Genus Granulifusus Kuroda & Habe, 1954
Type species: Fusus niponicus E.A. Smith, 1879 (Recent, western Pacific) (by monotypy).
The genus Granulifusus is restricted to the upper continental shelves in the Indo-West Pacific and actually contains 22 Recent and 6 fossil species. The taxon was recently discussed by Snyder (2003: 87-89). The shell characteristics cited in the original description of Granulifusus are a granulated surface sculpture and a small round operculum which does not fill the aperture (Kuroda & Habe, 1954: 89). Shuto (1958: 253) cited “… having a few granulated spiral series on the surface and the aperture gently narrowed to the siphonal canal without any constriction.“. Most species are light brown with reddish-brown spiral bands. Moreover, most Granulifusus species have 1 or 2 indistinct columellar fold(s) visible inside the aperture, often acquired in adult stage. Periostracum thin and inconspicuous, straw coloured.

Protoconch
Typical protoconch of Granulifusus is paucispiral, consisting of 1-1 1/2 smooth, glossy whorls, final 1/4 whorl sculptured with some axial riblets, transition to teleoconch abrupt, marked by a varix.
Operculum
The operculum is corneous, thin, translucent, yellowish to brown coloured, round-ovate, smaller than aperture, with fine concentric ridges and with a nucleus located at the lower right hand side.
