Fusinus rutilus Nicolay & Berthelot, 1996: La Conchiglia 278: 25-28, figs. 1-8
Type materialThe holotype is deposited at the Museo Civico di Zoologia of Rome (Reg. No. 2000/P). Type localityGabon. RangeRestricted to Gabon, from Cap Lopez to Mayumba. DiscussionThis recently described species seems to be valid, but Nicolay & Berthelot (1996) compared their species with F. meyeri and not with the true F. caparti. F. rutilus differs from F. meyeri by the clearly smaller size and the somewhat larger spire angle; by the stronger axial sculpture and the weaker and finer spiral sculpture, by the consistent reddish-brown axial ribs; by the larger diameter and the completely different morphology of the protoconch, and finally by the striking differences in radula morphology.
